Ten Things To Look For In A Radio Weather Service

  1. Is the weather audio updated at least every hour? Will your radio station have updated weather on the air every hour all night long and on weekends?
  2. Is the weather provider supplying weather audio that is close to real-time? Or is their weather from hours ago? Old weather is bad weather!
  3. Does the weather include current conditions? (Temperature, Heat Index, Wind Chill, Wind Speed, Humidity, Sky Conditions, Rain Conditions).  Or does the weather include only a forecast?
  4. Does the weather include weather alerts?  (Severe storms warnings and the like). Or does the weather include only a forecast?
  5. Can the intro and outro to the weathercast be customized, so they can include sponsor mentions? Is the weather provider dedicated to helping your station generate revenue from the weather?
  6. Are there multiple options for background music or a weather sounder?
  7. Does the weather provider supply a free download program if one is needed?
  8. Can the weather provider supply an external temperature sensor to be located at an advertiser’s location – so the hourly weather can include the sponsor’s name and the temp at that location?
  9. Will your weather provider prepare free demo recordings allowing potential sponsors to hear what their weather will sound like?
  10. Can the weather file be either a defined length or variable length?
